Why I Broke Up With FreshBooks After 7 Years & Switched to Dubsado

I can’t believe I did it. After 7 years of using a system I threw it all out to start from scratch. Since switching I’ve invoiced, collected payment and had in my bank account within 24 hours.

I’m never looking back.

When my husband moved to Lynchburg in 2011 he looked for a job in film and found that in a small VA mountain town options weren’t just limited…they were non-existent. So he decided to make a job for himself and started Life Focus Pictures. Neither of us went to college for business so when it came to getting started we were dependent on the advice of others. Over the years FreshBooks has made changes to help its users, some great additions and others a hot mess (luckily those features that bombed were retired quickly). The more we used the platform the more we had to pay and before you knew it we were paying $50/month…just to invoice. Idk about you but $600/year just to collect payments from your clients is pretty steep. There was a major overhaul to the site and the price increase followed but we were not grandfathered in at our $29 rate. So our monthly fee almost doubled and there was absolutely nothing we could do. They also retired the PayPal integration so we had to switch to using WePay which held our money longer than PayPal.

When Dubsado launched three years ago I created a trial account but what they offering at the time just wasn’t appealing. When the price rose for FreshBooks recently I asked around and after hearing from other online entrepreneurs I decided double back to give Dubsado another try.

Ya’ll I’ve had MULTIPLE video calls with Dubsado staff to help me understand how to use the platform. With FreshBooks the best I could do was call in. I didn’t even realize I wanted this option until I experienced it. Some things are SOOO much easier to describe when you can screenshare.

The BIGGEST selling point with Dubsado was they were willing to help me migrate to their platform. They also offer webinars, demos and free 1:1 calls. This young but super innovative software company is doing the best it can to help creatives. What more could you ask for?

It’s been two months since the switch. I’ve only used the invoicing feature but I’m sold. Since I’m able to use PayPal, client payments arrive within 24 hours not to mention I saved $300 this year cutting my invoicing costs IN HALF. Unlike FreshBooks, Dubsado is a CRM. So I can automate workflows, load in contracts and even use it for scheduling calls with clients on top of managing my finances.
